The author was one of Russia´s leading specialist in international law.He was the head of Kolchak´s MID and later became the editor of 'Nakanune' newspaper in Berlin. 'Nakanune' was subsidised by bolsheviks from very begining. On Lenin´s advice he was invited to be the head of Soviet delegation at the Genoa Conference (1922).

' Edinyi kust' is one of the earliest plays on civil war in Russia. It was written in Berlin and Paris between 1920 and 1923. To the best of our knowledge it was staged in Berlin already in 1922 when Kliuchnikov gave manuscript to Russian actress Xenia Doubrovina. The play had a greater success on professional stage and in Russian amateur theatres Berlin and Paris.

Kliuchnikov went back to Russia in 1923. Taught at Moscow university. He was arrested in late 1930s on spy charges and executed in 1938.
