Futurist poet and critic close at a time to Severianin´s circle and ego-futurists. Accompanied Severianin on poetry readings in 1915.The same year broke with Severianin and published two negative reviews on his new books. His poems were highly esteemed by Alexander Blok and Alexey Remizov. Had a brilliant memory, quotin entire pages of Talmud and Kant by heart.

After October revoliution worked in Cheka. He was dismissed but not prosecuted. Moved to Kazan (1921) and took part in Kazan artistic life, contributing to local press a number of important reviews on art life in Kazan and local poetry and art publications. Published in Kazan a brochure 'O znachenii iskusstva' under pseudonim Gerasim Chudakov. Went back to Leningrad, became addicted to alcohol and drugs.Chose to lead a life of professional beggar and swindler from 1926 and to his untimely death. While in Leningrad had a conflict with Mikhail Zoshchenko. The conflict was depicted by Zoshchenko in 'Golubaia kniga'.
