Memoirs by a Ukraine born film and theatre celebrity. Evgenii Matveev studied in Kiev School for Motion-picture (1940). After WW II played on stages of major Siberian theatres. From 1952 to 1968 he was with Moscow Malyi Theater. From 1955 Matveev has worked mainly in motion pictures. Became a cult actor after the very first film 'Dom, v kotorom ia zhivu' and later 'Podniataia tselina' (Makar Nagul´nov).

Matveev has directed movie production of 'Tsygan' (1967) and many other films. Most of his older fims became blockbusters. He directed also three films during 1990s but none were as popular as a cult production of 'Tsygan'. Matveev portrayed Leonid Brezhnev in the film 'Soldaty svobody' (1977).

The book was published by a shortly lived co-op publishing house with strong ties to former Moscow theatre and film actors´ Guild. Publishing activities were financially backed by a number of prominent film stars.
