| 8 vo, attractive original covers with publishing house logo and geometrical frame in green on dark biege. Printed on better ECF paper. Very good. RARE in such condition. FIRST EDITION. High resolution reproduction of famous photograph 'A. P. Chekhov and O. L. Knipper as newly weds' pasted in.The book was read into a pulp already by 1950s. Soviet edition has some censorial excersions and differs from first Berlin edition. E. N. Konshina was a leading specialist on Chekhov, literary critic and researcher at GBL, Manuscript Division. This edition was omitted from major bibliographies on Chekhov. According to Donald Rayfield 10% of letters from this edition were censored by Olga Knipper-Chekhova from two volume Moscow esition (1934,1936). See: Pitcher, Harvey.
