Includes the truly scarce issue number 55, devoted to the Tsar and his family, that was suppressed by the Bolsheviks. This issue was withdrawn from the library system and book trade net for almost fifty years. Most copies of the issue were destroyed by vigilante and overzelaous Soviet librarians in public and academic libraries and institutions in 1920s through 1940s. Situation similar to a Nazi Germany (1933-1945) and early days of German Democratic Republic (late 1940s- mid 1950s).

The issue was banned for sale in Government owned antiquarian book shops up to mid 1950s but sold under the counter by antiquarian book dealers, like Leonid Sergeevich Stepanov (Stepantorg) and Grigorii (Hirsh) Chaykin.

All front covers preserved. Elaborate rubber stamp of previous owner.

'Stolitsa i usad´ba', illustrated journal devoted to 'the beautiful life', mainly in St. Petersburg and Moscow. The journal was founded in 1913, as a bi- weekly periodical intended for the upper classes. In September 1917 the publication was ceased.

It was edited by its publisher V. P. Krymov. The journal's focal points were the beau-monde life of St. Petersburg and Moscow, the life of the Russian mansion in its past and present. The periodical published material on the history and architecture of Russian mansions, information about their owners, covered beau-monde life, art, theatre, balls, sport events, amateur plays of both capitals, material on the history of St. Petersburg, Imperial Court nomination reports, engagements and wedding announcements, news from the foreign embassies located in St. Petersburg and the like.

The journal also described the arts, architecture, fashion, decorating, sports events and entertainment available to the nobility and other moneyed classes of that period.
